Ed Robinson
paintings
Ed Robinson has a background in graphic design and illustration and has worked for some of the leading design and advertising agencies. Ed uses oils, acrylics and mixed media for his paintings. Ed often chooses to draw the viewer in with directional light which enables him to translate the ambiance of a scene at a particular moment in time. Incorporating collage and mixed media as well as his key technique of manipulating printed type and newsprint to create an exciting interplay of textural effects. Ed is continually moved and exhilarate by his surroundings. He is often surprised by the combination of shapes, colours and textures he sees daily. Ed is less preoccupied with a topographical correctness and just prioritises recreating what has been seen. He uses his own emotional response to the subject to arrive at a natural balance between the representational and the abstract. The painting subjects include busy markets, urban scenes and seascapes.
After completing a graphic design and illustration course at Great Yarmouth School of Art (now Norwich School of Art), Ed moved to London, working for some of the leading design and advertising agencies. During his career he obtained several national and international design awards and became a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers. Since becoming a professional artist his work is now held in private collections around the world.
