paintings
Jane Rhodes is Bedfordshire based and is best known for her atmospheric pastel paintings. Jane also uses oils and acrylics. Jane’s wide variety of work, in both subject and technique, owes much to her love of travel.
Jane habitually uses sketch books and her work is often about ‘magic’ moments that have a way of stopping her in her tracks. The effect of the light is a recurring theme in her work.
Painting for Jane is mostly about creating atmosphere, capturing and holding the "magic" of that moment that have a way of stopping her in her tracks. How she does that is secondary, most important is to communicate her response however, she is perhaps best known for her atmospheric landscapes and cityscapes in pastel. As a keen walker, Jane has always loved to explore the beautiful British countryside and in later years she has travelled widely. Jane habitually uses sketch books for sketches and photographs from these journeys. The effect of the light is a recurring theme in her work. Jane is greatly involved with art groups as a tutor and demonstrator. Jane has exhibited widely, and her paintings have been selected for open exhibitions including the Society of Women Artists and the Pastel Society at the Mall Galleries in London. Her work has been shown at The Norton Way Gallery, Letchworth and the Bedford Street Gallery, Woburn.
