I began working as an Artist Blacksmith in 2015 as a semi-retirement business in order to keep myself sane, sociable and solvent, tapping into more artistic roots that did not get a chance to breathe in my professional life as an innovation and leadership consultant and coach.
I am an artist blacksmith working in Musbury. I am interested in producing sculptures that capture form, flexibility, fluidity and movement. My original works are produced in mild steel and some of these are also produced as a limited edition of 15 bronzes, typically displayed on a stainless-steel base or freestanding.
The process begins with an armature to create the basic form and this is then built up using MIG welding and finished using grinding and polishing. The process is analogous to creating a sculpture from clay.
To create the bronzes a mould is taken from the original and the foundry uses a traditional lost wax process to create the sculpture.
